Natale (Nate) Teodoro

Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, Transpersonal Psychotherapist

I was born and raised in central Connecticut, and am a first generation Italian-American. I am married with two children, a golden-doodle, and live in West Hartford, CT.

I studied psychology and religions at the University of Connecticut and obtained a Masters of Arts in Counseling Psychology from the Institute of Transpersonal Psychology (now Sofia University) in Palo Alto, CA - the birthplace of family therapy. During that time, I also became a Steward of Existential Humanistic Psychotherapy and In-Depth Communication. I have training and experience in family therapy, trauma therapy, mindfulness and meditation techniques, consciousness studies, and traditional and modern adaptations of nature-based traditions (i.e. shamanic ritual and journey-work) which I use to guide and enrich my work with the people I serve.

I have been helping individuals and their families to improve their wellbeing for over 16 years. I have trained several therapists and am a designated Approved Supervisor by the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT). I am an adjunct instructor in the Master's Program in Marriage & Family Therapy at Central Connecticut State University.

My practice is welcoming to all people regardless of one's identified race, religion, ethnicity, gender, sex, or ability. I invite you to correct or educate me at any point so that I can know you better. My pronouns are he/him/his.

Education and Certifications

My Philosophy

My specializations in marriage and family therapy and transpersonal psychology provide a unique approach that combines clinical, systemic, humanistic, and at times approaches that integrate spiritual traditions and consciousness science. My approach is personalized to meet your individual needs and preferences. I make it a priority to listen and stay curious about your life and your story - and consider it an honor and privilege to do so.

Everyone has what they need within them to be whole, healthy, and to heal. At times, there are certain things that just get in the way. My approach is to help you to find and remove whatever is getting in the way of your or your family's natural potential to be whole and healthy, to help harness your strengths, and leverage the strengths of your relations. While finding your growing edge, and nurturing it, a way towards growth will reveal itself.

Modern medicine has much to offer, but at times it can be too linear and focused on only healing the symptoms. I look at your whole system, including your relationships because I acknowledge how we are fundamentally interrelated and responsive to those relationships. The work that I do can at times be very practical, such as looking at your sleep habits or daily routines. At other times it can be complex and strategic, such as helping to shift boundaries in a relationship. Still at other times it can even be a long and gradual process of working with deep feelings or your past. When possible, I use practical, brief, and strategic methods to help in the most efficient way. It is a unique process for everyone. When doing family work, I try to treat the whole family as one client to get everyone existing in synch with one another, promoting growth and flexibility.

One of the fundamental concepts of Transpersonal (spiritual) Psychology is that development does not stop with a healthy adult ego. Rather, there is a natural tendency for human development to progress into powerful spiritual growth if previous and more basic needs are met. Based on your world-view, my practice focuses on helping you explore, expand, and enrich your spiritual life - and use that process to assist you in meeting your goals.
